New Asenso Misamis Occidental refuge building nears completion

A beacon of hope is on the horizon for survivors of abuse in the province as the New Asenso Misamis Occidental Refuge (AMOR) nears completion in May this year, a crucial component of the Government's Misamis Occidental Tabang Alang sa Babaye/Bata Nga Giabusaran (GOV MOTABANG) program.

With the capacity to accommodate up to 40 survivors, AMOR represents a significant commitment to the 5Ms vision of the Asenso Misamis Occidental administration.

This vision is dedicated to ensuring that vulnerable Misamisnons, particularly abused women and children, have the opportunity to live peacefully, prosperously, and happily.

"The upcoming shelter features essential facilities, including therapy rooms, medical facilities, and counseling spaces, designed to provide comprehensive support to survivors on their journey toward healing and recovery," shared the province.

One of the most noteworthy aspects of AMOR is its focus on nurturing and empowering survivors. Children residing in the refuge are offered full scholarships by the provincial government, ensuring access to education.

Additionally, they receive full room and board, as well as the opportunity to learn essential life skills alongside therapeutic and counseling activities.

Another unique feature of AMOR is the regular interactions that residents have with the hardworking Governor Henry S. Oaminal. Serving as an inspiration and mentor, Governor Oaminal shares his own experiences as a working student, emphasizing the value of hard work and perseverance.

Having overcome personal challenges to complete high school and college through his own efforts, Governor Oaminal's pep talks serve as a source of encouragement for the residents, instilling in them the belief that through education, they too can achieve their dreams through dedication and determination.

As the completion of AMOR draws near, it stands as a testament to the commitment of the Asenso Misamis Occidental administration to provide a safe haven for survivors of abuse, ensuring that they have the opportunity, like all Misamisnons, to live peacefully, prosperously, and happily.
