MisOcc celebrates 1st Perangat festival 2022




Honoring the bountiful harvest of the province and its agro-industrial produce, traditions and tourist attractions, the province of Misamis Occidental celebrated its colorful culture in the 1st Perangat festival 2022 held at Misamis Occidental Provincial Athletic Complex (MOPAC) Grounds, Oroquieta City.


The Perangat “Pag-asenso”festival featured the Subanen Tribes tradition, culture, beliefs and a thanksgiving celebration for the abundance of blessings among the Subanen tribe.


Misamis Occidental Governor Henry S. Oaminal congratulated the officials of the province for the successful celebration of the Perangat festival 2022.


“Ako inyong gobernador, mapagarbuhon nga ang misamisnon are bringing with so many talents and passion. Ang inyong pagkugi nabayran. Gipakita ang colorful nga parada, harmonize dancing with the lovely smile of our people, it is heart warming because today the peace and joy that is willing up gikan sa tagsa-tagsa nga ka kasing-kasing natong tanan,” Oaminal said.

In an interview, Kenneth Ocampos from Ozamiz City shared his appreciation to the provincial government of Misamis Occidental for initiating the first Perangat festival.


“Daghang Salamat the working governor sa Misamis Occidental Henry S. Oaminal sa pagmugna niining first Perangat festival nga kini dayuhon pa ug puhon puhon mo lambo pa gyud ni. Kini nga festival atong ipasigarbo sa katawhan sa tibuok dili lang sa MisOcc kundili sa tibuok kalibotan,” he said.

The municipalities and cities highlighted different ways of rituals as a form of thanksgiving such as wedding, courtship, hunting, baptism, healing of the sick, planting and harvesting.


The contingent from Oroquieta City and Municipality of Jimenez emerged as champion of the ritual dance showdown competition of the 1st Perangat Festival 2022.


Oroquieta received P300,000 cash and trophy for city category winner and P200,000 cash and trophy for dance showdown & ritual presentation municipal category winner. The city and municipality champion also bagged the best in costume, best in musicality, best in props, best in choreography and best in festival director. They also received P15,000 cash and trophy for special awards.


For 1st Runner Up: Don Victoriano, 2nd Runner Up: Lopez Jaena, 3rd Runner Up: Sinacaban, Best in Props: Jimenez, Best in Costume: Jimenez, Best in Choreography: Jimenez and Best in Musicality: Don Victoriano.
