Ozamiz opens S.M. Lao Memorial City General Hospital

The Local Government of Ozamiz, led by Mayor Henry “Indy” Oaminal, held a soft opening of the SM Lao Memorial City General Hospital—which was considered a “significant breakthrough” in the city’s healthcare sector.

Earlier this week, Oaminal stressed the inaugural ceremony for the new healthcare facility was “a crucial step towards enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality” within the province of Misamis Occidental under the visionary program of the Padayon Asenso Ozamiz Administration.

The hospital's soft opening is part of its transitional period and allows the hospital team to adjust to the new facilities, personnel, and operational procedures.

Mayor Oaminal said the soft-launching phase also allows the hospital team to identify and further determine what they need to improve on as well as to adjust to the new procedures.

The hospital has an initial capacity of 17 beds, and it is seen as an immediate resolution to the healthcare needs gaps within the community.

Although currently functioning at an infirmary level, the plans for expansion are underway, envisioning the SM Lao Hospital as a level 1 facility in the future.

Mayor Oaminal expressed optimism about the hospital's growth, highlighting its potential to accommodate up to 50 patients and alleviate the burden on existing healthcare institutions.

She also cited the significance of collaboration between neighboring regions to enhance healthcare delivery and mitigate patient congestion in major medical centers.

Dr. Holly Tago, Governor Henry Oaminal's representative, underscored the provincial government's support for the initiative, recognizing its role in strengthening the overall healthcare infrastructure.

She noted that decentralizing healthcare services to promote equitable access and relieve pressure on centralized facilities are equally important.

Mayor Oaminal is likewise positive about the financial benefits of operating a local hospital, saying it would increase revenue circulation in the area.

The soft opening of the SM Lao Memorial City General Hospital reflects a strategic investment in the well-being of Ozamiz residents and underscores the commitment of the Padayon Asenso Ozamiz Administration to prioritize healthcare as a fundamental aspect of community development.

As the hospital prepares to fully integrate into the healthcare ecosystem, Ozamiz residents can anticipate enhanced medical services and improved healthcare outcomes.

The local government said the event marks a new era of progress and prosperity for Ozamiz City and its constituents. (SN/PGMO)
