LGU Plaridel records 31 HOTS in celebration of Annual Fiesta Job Fair
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-X) through the Misamis Occidental Provincial Field Office (MOPFO) headed by Provincial Director Ebba Borbon-Acosta in partnership with the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) and the Local Government Unit of Plaridel successfully conducted a Job Fair on 5 September 2023 at Plaridel Municipal Gymnasium, this province.
571 job seekers participated in the Job Fair.
The event was one of the highlights of their month-long fiesta celebration in September which catered to the unemployed sector in the locality. It also provided one-stop-shop services from national government agencies like Social Security Services (SSS), Philippine Health Inc. (PhilHealth), PAG-IBIG, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), etc. for those who need verification and assistance.
In his inspirational message, Plaridel Municipal Mayor Gadwin E. Handumon encouraged the aspiring applicants to explore all possibilities and use it in a productive and decent way. He then emphasized the need to utilize skills and talents as one may venture into the entrepreneurial path if unsuccessful in the job application.
“To those who will be hired on the spot, congratulations, and to those who are not, do not lose hope, use your skills and explore many possibilities that you have," Mayor Handumon said.
DOLE Mis. Occ. Senior LEO Jasmin L Vicente formally opened the event with a total of 1849 job openings for 13 local participating employers present during the activity. Out of 571 job seekers, 31 were Hired-On-The-Spot (HOTS), while 622 were listed as near-hires and for further interview.
Jenny Capapas, 21 years old, and a resident from P-7 Talairon, Oroquieta City was one of those Hired-On-The-Spot (HOTS) at ASA Philippines Foundation as Microfinance Officer. Despite the distance, she travelled from Oroquieta to Plaridel to submit her application, hoping she might secure a spot. Jenny believes she can do more and dreams to give her family a comfortable living.
“Wala jud ko nag-expect nga ma-HOTS ko kay ready na jud unta ko mangapply ug lain nga company. Ug sa dihang gitawag akong ngalan, na surprise ug nalipay jud kaayo ko. Thankful ko ani na Job Fair kay mao ni reason nga maka-trabaho ko with less expenses and hassle-free sa pag-pangapply,” said Jenny.
[I was not expecting that I would be one of the HOTS, I was actually ready to apply to other companies if I didn’t make it. I was surprised when my name was called. I am thankful for this opportunity to join the Job Fair and that I was able to land a job.]
Jobs Fair serves as an avenue to provide employment facilitation which aims to expedite the meeting of jobseekers and employers in local and overseas recruitment agencies. In addition, employers are located in one venue at a specific date to reduce cost, which makes it convenient on the part of job seekers. (LMR/ARC/DOLE-X MOPFO)
