The League of Municipalities of the Philippines here in Misamis Occidental condemned the recent bombing incident, allegedly targeting Governor Henry Oaminal, as they sought speedy conduct of an investigation on the roadside attack.

With Resolution No. 02 s. 2023 released on Tuesday, the league condemned in the strongest term the terroristic act of using an improvised explosive device (EID) in an attack.

“The joint motion of the body condemns such barbaric act to its strongest term and requesting the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other agencies for an immediate investigation and prompt justice against the perpetrators,” the LMP resolution read.

The EID blasted around 11:00 p.m., while the governor’s convoy vehicles were traversing the road going to the Gov Oaminal residence, after the provincial executive leader attended an official meeting in Clarin, Misamis Occidental last October 15, 2023.

Meanwhile, LMP President and Sinacaban Mayor Dello Lood described the incident as an attack on the people of Misamis Occidental.

“I believe that an attempt on the life of our provincial leader is an attempt to the peaceful lives of all Misamisnons. This is also a blatant example of violence to one of our development thrusts, which is, Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon,” he said.

“The members demand that the malefactors who have committed such a despicable act will be brought to justice as a stark warning to all others who intend to commit similar deplorable acts,” the resolution further read.

It added that the increasing acts of violence against those in public service have further strengthened resolve to call for a united and collaborative effort from all levels of government to address the root cause of this criminality and to build inclusive communities that share the same vision of a peaceful and safe society.

The league said it remains adamant and committed to pushing protection of the local leaders and their respective constituents from the harm brought about by peace detractors.

“In the face of these threats against our safety, and that of our constituents, the members of the LMP-Misamis Occidental Chapter remain resolute in our commitment to promote a safer, and more secure environment for all local leaders. their duty and responsibility as public servants will not be deterred,” the league said.(PGMO)
