Celebrating the best of Ozamiz City
Ozamiz City is agricultural by resources, but it has become the center for commerce, health, transportation and education in this part of Mindanao, considering its strategic location and its peaceful atmosphere.
The feast of Our Lady of Triumph at Cotta Shrine is celebrated every July 16 which is also the Charter City anniversary.
A Laya Cooking and Asenso Painting competition, Barangay Day, Asenso Barangay Manok Bisaya Contest, Asenso Biking Tour participated by Ozamiznons, different private schools, and 51 Barangays held at the Prospera Park in front of the City Hall.
This event was organized to showcase the talent of Ozamiznons and to promote the locally available "Laya" in aid of the local fishermen and to help showcase the bisayang manok, cooked in many different recipes, to help local farmers earn from producing the native chicken variety.
The Local Government of Ozamiz also held the 'Kasalan ng Bayan’ or free mass wedding event at Ozamiz City Gymnasium, July 15.
This is the first mass wedding solemnized by Mayor Henry "Indy" Oaminal involving 200 couples of various ages in Ozamiz City.
Each couple received a wedding cake, a complete set of Solane products, P10,000 cash from the city government of Ozamiz, P10,000 cash from Second District Rep. Sancho Fernando Oaminal and P10,000 cash from Governor Henry S. Oaminal Sr.
The other activities for the Charter Anniversary and Feast of the Birhen sa Cotta celebration were recognition night and awarding of winners for the live band and fireworks display.
All these events were meant to fully highlight the culture of Ozamiz as well as the local produce and talents of Ozamiznons.
The decreasing number of cases with no more restrictions, had allowed the Asenso Ozamiz administration led by Mayor Henry Oaminal Jr to host different activities and events for this year’s charter anniversary of the city. (Shaine Mae R. Nagtalon/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
