Ozamiz City prepares for “Big One,”joins simultaneous earthquake drill

Students and faculty and Staff of Lasalle University, Ozamiz City participated the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on Thursday, June 9.(AONC)

The Ozamiz City Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) are maximizing efforts to prepare for the inevitable “Big One,” as the city participated in the Second Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED).

Ozamiz City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) led by Rico Guangco Jr. said that this activity is conducted regularly to assess readiness of local government units and stakeholders.

“Sa ing-ani nga klase nga activity, we see to it nga unsa tong mga kulang ug katong mga gikahinanglan nga e-accomplish nato. Ang purpose sa drill para ma-check nato unsa kaandam ang atoang mga institutions especially the schools,” he said.

(In this kind of activity, we will see to it to address shortcomings and things that needs to be accomplished. The purpose of the drill is for us to check how ready our institutions are especially the schools)

He shared the importance of the drill, “We are better secured kung prepare ta so bisag drill lang siya but then if we do our part and seriously e-take nato ni nga drill nga mura siya’g tinuod then we stand a better chance of surviving."

(We are better secured if we prepare, so even if this is just a drill but then if we do our part and take it seriously then we will stand a better chance of surviving)

The PhilHealth and two schools from Lasalle University, Ozamiz and Pulot National High School participated in the drills, demonstrating the “duck, cover, and hold” when the bells rang at exactly 9am.

The NSED aims to exercise and test institutions, offices, and schools’ preparedness for both low and high impact earthquakes and their response to these calamities, and awareness of the necessary protocols.(SMRN/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
