The provincial government of Misamis Occidental has committed P19.1 million in funds to support the construction of additional classrooms and the hiring of more teachers, as the Northwestern Mindanao State College (NMSC) in Tangub City will be elevated to university status through Republic Act 11186 with the new name, University of Northwestern Mindanao (UNM).

The law requires NMSC to achieve an enrollment of at least 6,000 students.

Gov. Henry S. Oaminal emphasized his dedication to this goal, reflecting on years of strategic effort and collaboration with school management to meet the necessary requirements.

Currently, the college has 3,600 students from second to fourth year, and with 3,932 new entrants passing the entrance examination, the target is within reach.

However, the immediate capacity to accommodate these students is a challenge due to existing infrastructure limitations.

To address this, the provincial government of MisOcc has committed P19,142,500.00 to support the construction of additional classrooms and the hiring of more teachers.

This budget allocation demonstrates the local government's commitment to prioritizing Misamisnon students by ensuring adequate accommodation for the increased student body.

"This funding from our provincial government demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that the youth of Misamis Occidental have access to quality education and the opportunities that come with it," Oaminal assured.

This investment not only facilitates the university's compliance with enrollment requirements but also affirms the provincial government's dedication to the educational and future success of its residents.

Oaminal's announcement during the Asenso Pamilya education program orientation highlighted the collaboration between the local government and educational institutions in striving for a brighter future for Misamis Occidental's youth. (PGMO/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
