MisOcc’s newly elected SK officials train on good governance
Some 490 newly-elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairpersons in the province of Misamis Occidental completed the four-day training on good governance and the crafting of substantial local legislation.
The training was integrated into the provincial government’s push for Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon [Misamisnon to live peacefully, progressively, and happily] (5Ms) program.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Misamis Occidental and local government units recently held the training in Tangub City from November 17 to November 20, 2023.
Working Governor Henry S. Oaminal initiated the four-day training for the newly elected young leaders in a bid to promote a much-needed honing of abilities in crafting substantial legislation that is appropriately designed for the youth sector.
“Today, it is not only mere compliance of the law, but it is sincere compliance para makab-ot ang intention sa balaod ug unsa man ang intention sa balaod nga kamong kabatan-onan mamahimong partner, ang inyong wisdom kinahanglan nga inyong ma-exercise [Today, it is not only mere compliance with the law, but it is sincere compliance to achieve the intention of the law; your wisdom must be exercised],” the governor said.
He further added that in partnership with the local officials, the governor and mayor, the officials can achieve the Asenso Misamis Occidental through their development thrust program, which is the 5Ms: Misamisnons to live peacefully, progressively, and happily].
Oaminal has emphasized the importance of providing genuine public service so that leaders can make a positive impact in a certain community.
Meanwhile, DILG-MisOcc Provincial Director and Training Director, Pablio Benitez Jr., underscored the need for the youth sector to be heard in terms of legislation affecting the younger generations.
"Amo mong tabangan aron nga matuman ang inyong gipangandoy ug gidamgo para sa inyohang tagsa-tagsa ka mga kabatan-onan sa inyong barangay [We will help each and everyone of you to fulfill your wishes and dreams for youth in your respective barangays],” Benitez said.
“Once you assume office, you are no longer an ordinary citizen, but you are considered a public official,” he continued.
Benitez also stressed the need to instill in young leaders the code of conduct and ethical standards of good governance, which they can also replicate for their fellow youth in their villages.
Training includes various modules or sessions to apprise the new SK officials on Philippine History, Misamis Occidental History, Poverty, Peace and Order, Nationalism, Role of the Youth in Nation Building, Community Development, KB-SK History-Salient Features, Value-Based Leadership, Responsible Stewardship, Team Building Activities, and Collaboration;
