To respond to the pressing needs of families affected by the shearline in the province, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) supported the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental by augmenting financial assistance under the Emergency Cash Transfer Payout program.
DSWD Undersecretary Eduardo together with Governor Henry S. Oaminal lead the distribution of cash assistance to some 7,307 affected families by shear line on May 25,2023 held at BayFront Arena, Oroquieta City.
The beneficiaries received financial assistance worth P13,680 for each family from the DSWD through the effort and close coordination of the governor of Misamis Occidental with the national government.
Punay came here to personally met with families affected by shear line, saying "Sa ating pamilya po na nasalanta ng shear line, gusto po namin ipaabot sa inyo na ang inyong provincial government, at ang inyong national government sa pamamagitan ng DSWD ay patuloy na tutulong sa inyo hanggat kayo ay makabalik sa normal na pamumuhay.
The DSWD will continue to work with the provincial and local governments down to the barangays because we find it crucial to prioritize your safety and well-being, especially during times of disaster,”he added.
Punay also promised the families affected by shear line that they would act promptly and proactively to address their emergency needs.
"This ECT payout realizes our promise to support our local government units and Filipino families by delivering quality and efficient social protection and social welfare services," Punay said.
Meanwhile, Governor Henry S. Oaminal vowed to continue assisting calamity-affected families by providing assistance.
“Mao ni ang pinakadako [assistance] tungod sa atong panaghiusa mga Misamisnon, tungod sa atong panagtinabangay nakita nga kita angayan sa maong tabang gikan sa kaulohan busa mga kaigsuonan padayon ang atong sensero, ug paningkamot para mo Asenso ang atong pamuyo towards sa atong direksyon. The implementation of ECT would help the affected population meet their most pressing needs such as food, health care and shelter during the disaster recovery phase. The ECT program is the national government's response to help disaster-affected families recover and live again in normalcy.
The DSWD will provide ECT to a total of 24,000 families in the province of Misamis Occidental.(SMRN/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
