A total of 264 interns under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-X) Government Internship Program (GIP) attended an orientation at Asenso Misamis Occidental Sports and Cultural Center, Oroquieta City, this province.

These interns will be assigned to all Local Government Unit (LGU) offices in the entire province. They will work for three consecutive months equivalent to a total salary of PhP 26,730.00 each.

“DOLE GIP allocated a total stipend of PhP 7,056,720.00 to allow them to gain experience and exhibit their abilities and talents in the field of public service," said Misamis Occidental Provincial Director Ebba Borbon-Acosta.

Provincial Governor Henry S. Oaminal encouraged the young professionals to be competitive and effective interns and role models to their fellow Misamisnons.

Meanwhile, Jojo Noriel Ampahan, Manager of the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) emphasized to the GIPs the need to effectively utilize their abilities for the development of public service.

She added that the interns must be the best version of themselves and must value the learnings that they will gain during their internship.

GIP Focal person discussed the guidelines of the program and the General Labor Standards to allow the interns to have a deeper understanding of the pertinent labor and employment issues.

DOLE-X hopes that the program would motivate interns to pursue careers in the government and industries in the future.

GIP is a component of the government's vast employment initiative aimed at reducing poverty. The initiative intends to create chances for young professionals to serve the public through projects and services of local and national government agencies and offices. (DOLE 10)
