To improve upcoming projects and prevent future disasters, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)- Misamis Occidental 1st and 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) have started to upgrade their knowledge and adjust their design for a more quality driven infrastructure for Filipinos.

“We have our commitment to the Filipino people that we have to provide quality infrastructure and safe environmentally free public infrastructure and facilities to every Filipino,” said DPWH’s 1st Engineering District Office OIC-Assistant District Engineer Ramisis Jaimar Y. Bicoy in Let's Talk MisOcc, virtual media forum e-Talakayan.

In terms of building bridges and roads, Bicoy also assured the public that the infrastructure is solidly built, sufficient enough to stand any calamities.

As to the flood control project in District 1, Bicoy shared that when President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. came, a sustainable solution was discussed to at least improve infrastructure to prevent future disasters.

“So, we are now upgrading our design, particularly deepening our rivers, and creeks. In fact, we are now preparing a program to widen the Layawan River kay mao nay major river karon sa Oroquieta City nga gikahinanglan namo ug attention (because it is now the major river in Oroquieta City that we need immediate attention),” he said.

The total damage from massive flooding in District 1 that includes roads, bridges and flood control is P913,600,000.00.

The scope of DPWH District 1 includes Oroquieta City, Aloran, Panaon, Jimenez, Lopez Jaena, Plaridel, Calamba, Concepcion, and Sapang Dalaga.

Meanwhile, DPWH 2nd Engineering District Office OIC Engr. Vivian Lumingkit said, "Sa atong Distrito, ang among assessment ana gamay lang ang naapektuhan and mostly mga flood control projects ang mga nadaot so mokabat kini ug P200 million more or less diri sa Second District as of January 25."

(In our District, our assessment is that only a few were affected and mostly flood control projects were damaged so it will amount to P200 million more or less here in the Second District as of January 25)

On the implementation of flood control projects, Engr. Vivian Lumingkit shared that they have already implemented many flood control projects.

"Daghan mi na implement nga flood control projects gani ug wala paning flood control projects diri sa district dako gyud ang kadaot nga mahitabo especially diri sa Municipality of Bonifacio nga gihatag sa national government ug LGU. Gikahinanglan gyud ug dako-dako nga funding in order to build quality ug naa tay design criteria sa mag build ana nga klase nga flood control or bridges or roads basi sa mga kalamidad nga maka resist gyud siya," Lumingkit said.

(We have already implemented many flood control projects and there are no flood control projects damaged here in the district. We really need a lot of funding in order to build quality and we have design criteria to build that kind of flood control or bridges or roads based on the calamities that can really resist)

Areas under DPWH District 2 include five municipalities and two cities in Misamis Occidental namely Ozamiz City, Tangub City, and the municipalities of Don Victoriano, Bonifacio, Clarin, Tudela, and Sinacaban.

DPWH's mandate is to undertake the planning of infrastructure such as the national roads and bridges, flood control system, water resources projects, and other public works as well as the design, construction, and maintenance of national roads and bridges, and major flood control systems.(SMRN/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
