One of the purposes of tree planting is to protect the environment and part of the greening program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), said an official of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO) Misamis Occidental.

PENRO Rey S. Fernandez also stressed the significant value of trees in ensuring food security and strengthening agricultural production.

In a Nationwide Simultaneous Tree Planting Activity, September 13 at Barangay Buenavista, Tudela town, he said that the activity is to bring back the advocacy on tree planting which has been abandoned for some time due to the pandemic.

“Kami nagto-o nga ang tree planting, ang pagprotektar sa atong kinaiyahan, ang pag-improve sa atong kinaiyahan dili lang na role sa DENR kundili role natong tanan. Kinahanglan mo participate ta ug mahimo tang parti ka’y dili lang ang among anak ang nagginhawa ug clean air ug dili lang ang among anak ang gainom ug limpyo nga tubig kundili ang atong mga kabataan ug ang umaabot nato nga mga kabataan,” PENRO Officer said.

(We believe that tree planting, protecting our environment, improving our environment is not just the role of DENR but the role of all of us. We must participate and we can be a part of this because it is not only our children who breathe clean air and it is not only our children who drink clean water but our children and our future children)

Different government agencies from Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental, LGU Tudela, Civil Society Organization, Misamis Occidental Police Provincial Office (MOPPO), 10th Infantry Battalion of Philippine Army, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Barangay Officials and residents of Barangay Buenavista and other volunteers participated in the activity.

More than 1,000 tree seedlings were planted consisting mostly of indigenous tree species like Narra, Mahogany and fruit trees. (SMRN/PIA MisOcc)
