After exceeding the regional level of assessment for this year’s Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), four local government units in Misamis Occidental underwent National Validation from August 30 to September 2, 2022.

These municipalities were LGUs of Aloran, Bonifacio, Lopez Jaena, and Plaridel which included both onsite inspections and documentary reviews.

Local Government Monitoring and Evaluation Division Chief of DILG Region IV-A Don Ayer Abrazaldo led the national assessment whose primary responsibility is to ensure data reliability and substantiate assessment observations for shortlisted LGUs.

He is accompanied by Program Manager Lolita Guia, Provincial Focal Person LGOO V Dannica Vicente, Regional Office LGOO II Gwennifyn Vaquilar, and the respective DILG field officers, who diligently and meticulously supported and assisted their LGUs during the validation.

“Despite the more stringent assessment criteria, it is noteworthy that the 4 LGUs of Misamis Occidental deserved a commendation for their commitment in achieving this far, recognized as a potential passer among other LGUs in the province,“ Abrazaldo emphasized.

As part of the validation process, the assessment was carried out in two phases: On-site inspections of the LGU facilities, buildings, and structures, notably in the area of Disaster Preparedness and the documentary review to support the SGLG requirements and criteria.

The SGLG national validation is conducted in LGUs that have passed the regional level of validation or are considered as ‘potential passers’ of the Seal.

LGU’s validated assessment results will then be presented to the Council of Good Local Governance (CGLG) for final deliberation and confirmation. Once agreements are reached, the List shall be endorsed to the Council Chairperson, DILG, for approval of the results.

SGLG is DILG’s most esteemed award given to LGUs that demonstrated exemplary and innovative local governance practices which aims to inculcate good local governance among LGUs and recognize those who consistently strive to upscale and improve the services provided to their constituents.

The recipients of the SGLG Awards will be conferred with the SGLG marker; eligibility to the SGLG incentive fund and other intervention packages to finance their local development initiatives; and access to other programs and capacity development assistance from the DILG.(DILG MisOcc/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
