DOST-10 to scale down malnutrition among conflict-driven areas in Tangub City

The Department of Science and Technology-Misamis Occidental turned over project funds to Tangub City to alleviate malnutrition among children in conflict-driven barangays. 

The City Government of Tangub, Misamis Occidental received a total amount of Php 785,135.00 for the roll-out of the DOST-Package for the Improvement of Nutrition of Young Children (PINOY) in the 17 identified far-flung and conflict-driven barangays, namely: Hoyohoy, Owayan, San Antonio, Sicot, Santo Niño, Paiton, Caniangan, Bintana, Taguiet, Baluc, Salimpuno, Banglay, Tituron, Kimat, Bongabong, Matugnao and Simasay. 

DOST PINOY is under the Malnutrition Reduction Program (MRP) of the DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute. 

"The DOST PINOY strategy under the MRP is a package of intervention which involves direct feeding of rice-mongo based complementary foods for 6 months to below 3 years old children and nutrition education among mothers and caregivers," said DOST-FNRI. 

A total of 574 young children ages 6-35 months will benefit from the project. Of these were 292 males and 282 females. 

DOST-10 anticipates improved child growth and development with a 50% increase in weight after 120 days of complementary food feeding.
